High-end cigars are a product shrouded in more mystery than you might imagine. Most people think they know a thing or two about high-end cigars, but sometimes, even the experienced smokers have it wrong. Some of the things they think they know are more lore than fact. Thankfully, you are about to learn the truth. In the world of high-end cigars, here's what's fact — and what's fiction.

Nothing compares to a Cuban.

Fiction. Cuban cigars are high-quality. However, they don't own the whole high-end cigar market! Cigars from Nicaragua, Ecuador, El Salvador, and other Central American nations are just as good, and some might even be better. Cuban cigars are so widely known because they were banned in the U.S. for so long, and as a result, were hard to come by. It was scarcity that made them famous, not necessarily quality.

Good cigars are not cylinder-shaped.

Fact. To be a little more clear, this one is mostly true. There are some good cigar brands that make cylinder-shaped cigars, but in general, this uniform shape is indicative of a lower-end, mass-produced product. If you buy from a higher-end brand, like Tatuaje for example, the cigars will more likely be torpedo or chisel-shaped. With a few exceptions, if you see a cigar that is not a perfect cylinder, you can count on that cigar being good quality.

Aged cigars are better.

Fiction. Perhaps this myth comes from the world of wine, where wine gets better with age. Cigars, however, don't really behave this way. If a cigar is stored in a humidity-controlled environment, it can last for 5 years or more. So, there's nothing inherently wrong with buying an older, high-end cigar if you know it has been properly stored. However, that cigar won't be any better after two years of storage than it was the day it was rolled — and if it was not stored perfectly, it might be lower quality.

High-end cigars are only for experienced smokers.

Fiction. Some will tell you that a good cigar will only be wasted on a new smoker who can't tell the different anyways. However, there is quite a difference in flavor between good cigars and low-end ones. If a new smoker smokes a low-end cigar, they may decide the habit is not for them. On the other hand, if they smoke a nice, good-quality cigar, they'll have a better experience. It's worth buying the quality you can afford, regardless of your experience level.

Now that you have the real facts, head out there and smoke your cigar! It's an experience worth enjoying. Contact a company that sells products like Tatuaje cigars to learn more.
